High-school students use age math for three recurring things: college registration (turning 18), senior-year milestones, and a personal curiosity about “how many days have I been alive.” This calculator handles all three.
What This Calculator Does
Enter your date of birth and (optionally) a target date. The calculator returns:
- Your age in years, months, and days
- Total days, hours, and minutes lived
- The exact date you will turn 18 (if you have not yet)
- A senior-year countdown if your graduation date is set
- Your age at the end of the current school year

Senior-Year Countdown
Enter your expected graduation date. The calculator shows:
- Days remaining until graduation
- Age you will be on graduation day
- Whether you will be 18 by the end of the school year (relevant for voting in school-board elections)
College Registration and the 18+ Check
Most four-year colleges require you to be 18 by the first day of fall classes, not by the application deadline. The calculator compares your 18th birthday to the first day of fall term for the year you would enroll. If your birthday falls after the first day, the calculator flags “under 18 on day one” so you can plan accordingly (parent signature, deferred enrollment, or gap-year plans).
Feb 29 Birthdays
Students born on Leap Day often get confused about when they “officially” turn a year older. This calculator shows both interpretations:
- Personal celebration: Feb 28 in non-leap years
- Legal/official: Mar 1 in non-leap years (used by most U.S. states)
The default output uses the legal interpretation. Switch to “personal” mode if you want the celebration-day count.
How the Calculator Handles Edge Cases
- Future birthdates: the calculator returns a negative age and a “not yet born” warning.
- Same-day query: the age is reported as 0 years, 0 months, 0 days — with a “happy birthday” note.
- Date input errors (e.g. Feb 30): the calculator refuses the input and asks for a valid date. We do not silently roll over to March 2.
Limitations
The age in months uses the “calendar month” definition (Jan 15 to Feb 15 = 1 month). For a medical or legal context that requires exact day-counting in completed months, divide the total days by 30.4375.

Yes. The calculator handles Feb 29 birthdays correctly: in non-leap years, your birthday is treated as Mar 1 for legal age, or Feb 28 for personal celebrations. Both are computed.
